Teen Read Week Read for the fun of it!

Teen Read Week (TRW) is an adolescent reading initiative of the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA) which is being adopted by school libraries worldwide. It began in 1998 and is being celebrated every October to encourage teens to spend time reading for pleasure. Amidst technological distractions, it is critical to remind our students the importance of reading as the key to lifelong learning skills.

Teen Read Week 2020

Find Your Place @your Library, Find the Library @your Place

Teen Read Week (TRW) is an adolescent reading initiative of the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA) which is being adopted by school libraries worldwide. It began in 1998 and is being celebrated to encourage teens to spend time reading for pleasure. Amidst all the chaos that are happening right now, it is critical to remind our students the importance of reading as the key to lifelong learning.

The theme for Teen Read Week 2020, Find Your Place @your Library, Find the Library @your Place, was adopted from the National Library Week of American Library Association. When most people think of “library”, they think of books. And while that is certainly true, libraries are more than just books but places of information. Even though most libraries are closed because of the global pandemic, libraries still provide virtual spaces and offer online services and digital contents.

In addition to connecting information, libraries connect people. They are safe havens for students, promoting literacy, and serving as community hubs. The theme was chosen to reflect how libraries go beyond the four walls of the schools and how each one of us can still find our own place in the libraries.

The event will commence on November 11 and will be celebrated for the entire month of November as the Library and Information Services Month, together with all libraries in the country.

Participate and join our activities. Celebrate the fun of reading!
