Information Literacy is considered as one of the necessary 21st century skills for students. To be information literate, one must acquire the ability to locate, evaluate, and use effectively the information found. This school year, topics about Digital Citizenship were added to help our students participate fully in their communities, make smart choices online, and ultimately, take ownership of their digital lives.
The science behind organizing books in the library is very simple. EMC uses Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) system which is one of the standards in classifying materials in the Library. The system was conceived by Melvil Dewey in 1973 and was first published in 1976. Hierarchy in the DDC is expressed through structure and notation. This means that all topics (except for the 10 main classes) are part of a broader topics above them. The Ten Main Classes include the following:
